Bookswap Coming Soon! [Jan. 29th, 2009|06:45 pm]
Chicklit Bookswap in London

I really wasn't kidding about already having an overflowing box of proof copies:

For those of you who are newish to the community and are wondering what exactly this bookswap business entails, don't worry! It is totally fun! And here is a handy guide that pisica wrote for last year. We may call it a bookswap, but all kinds of swapsies are totally fair game - DVDs, CDs, comics, bizarre unwanted Christmas presents. If you can carry it, you can bring it. It is predominantly books though - we're purists at heart.

And if you don't have anything to swap, don't worry! You can totally still come and take things away with you. We ALWAYS end up with tons of great stuff left over. (Also some utterly rubbish stuff, but that is why we take all the leftovers to the Oxfam bookshop - even they can probably find somebody who wants to buy a complete history of the Conservative party. Maybe)

So yeah, Bookswap 2009 is almost upon us (FEBRUARY 28TH), and I thought it was time we got on with the very small amount of planning that this involves. Basically, I just need a rough idea of numbers, so that I can make sure there are enough sandwiches and cheesy puffs to go around. Hence, a handy poll:

Poll #1339863 London Bookswap 2009 (Baby!)

Are You Coming?

I am totally for sure coming
12(60.0%)
I may be coming, but there is stuff going on in my life that might get in the way, and I'll have to get back to you
5(25.0%)
I CAN'T COME. Instead I will sit at home and weep bitter bookswapless tears
3(15.0%)

I am...

An omnivore
9(52.9%)
A vegetarian
5(29.4%)
A vegan
0(0.0%)
Fussy in a very specific way that I will detail in the comments
1(5.9%)
In possession of some really wacky food allergies
0(0.0%)

I will post my address and directions to my flat a bit nearer the time. Don't worry though, it's totally easy to get to. All you need is a cursory knowledge of the London tube and the ability to differentiate right from left.

Alrighty then! See you all in a month!

I find it very cute that you answered your own poll. In case you forgot what food you like to eat. :)

Oh heck. I SWEAR I clicked 'I will cry bookless tears' and yet it's still telling me that no one voted that way.

But believe me, I'm a-crying. Saturday is the only day in the sodding week I always work, which I suspect makes me a rubbish bookswap candidate (do you ever have them on Sundays?)

It currently thinks you may be coming but have family issues. If you click on Poll #1339863 and then on 'Fill out poll' it should let you rechoose your answers.

Oh no! It has always been on a Saturday but I guess there's no reason why it couldn't be on a Sunday in future. Pipe up when we're planning next year!

I'm really sorry you can't make it though - you're one of the few people in the comm I've never met, and I'd really like to!

*g*

That's probably BECAUSE you've never met me :)

I shall shout loudly about the joy of Sundays next year!

OH NO! I was hoping you might really actually be coming! But I and the kids will be in London on Sunday too...

And maybe, if the weather is ok, maybe going to the world's greatest playground, complete with Pirate Ship?

I am fussy in so many ways, but I will just not eat stuff I don't like and not expect anyone to cater to my whims. That sounds hideously passive-aggressive, but it's not meant to!

What time are you anticipating starting? I'm coming down in the morning, and there is a half eight train that gets me to Euston for about 11am. I'm trying to work out whether to make the sacrifice of sleep and attempt the 7.30, or resign myself to being too late for the first pickings!

Well we normally have people arriving from 11am, but if you get into Euston for 11am you could be here for 11.30 and I promise we wouldn't start without you!

I cannot believe I wrote 'pouring over books' in that handy guide. *grumpily edits*

One of the things that makes me happiest in life is people who point out to the world some incredibly silly mistake they've made themselves :)

*is imagining pouring milk over books*

*also makes incredibly obvious mistakes at annoying moments*

Yeah, well, in THIS group I figured I'd better 'fess up. I'm sure someone noticed at the time but was far too polite to mention it. :)

Hurrah!

And wow, that looks like it's almost a bookswap's worth of books, as it is! :-)

Mushrooms. And truffles, but this time I don't think we need to worry about the truffles.

I think you've pretty much got me down when it comes to my fussiness. I will not detail.

I'm really looking forward to it. Yay books!!

Is that book there The Hobbit? I can say with certainty I won't be making a mad dash for that one. I never did finish it.

I imagine that we will not be overburdened with olives, liquorice or bananas?

Let me know if you need food brought, and I will do a repeat run of the Anzac biscuits you did not get to eat last weekend.
