Chicklit Bookswap in London

Hello! I am posting all the way from foreign to officially declare that the 2009 London Bookswap will be held on Saturday February 28th at my place, probably from around 11am. This date decided upon by democratic poll - 100% of respondents claimed to be free on 28th Feb. So I expect you all to be there - no excuses!

There will be books, there will be cake, there will be chat.

2009 London Bookswap - Everywhere else is nowhere baby!

It's that time of year again [Oct. 17th, 2008|03:06 pm]

London Bookswap '09! Hurrah! Who's in?

February will be upon us before we know it, so before you all start filling your busy social calendars, let's figure out which lucky February saturday will have the honour of being declared our bookswapping date.

In the grand tradition of London bookswaps (started just last year by alltheleaves, but a tradition nevertheless) the date shall be decided upon by LJ Poll:

Poll #1280365 Bookswap!

Which saturdays are you available for bookswapping?

Saturday February 7th
0(0.0%)
Saturday February 14th (bookswapping can be romantic, right?)
0(0.0%)
Saturday February 21st
0(0.0%)
Saturday February 28th
0(0.0%)

Also: Can I host this one? PLEASE? (Points in my favour: my house is dead easy to get to. And I have cats.) Although if Saturday February 14th wins then I can't host because I have to go to a wedding that day. (booo!) But I was democratic and put that date into the poll anyway.

Why don't you get hungry in the desert? [Feb. 19th, 2008|11:42 am]

Because of the sandwiches there!

So, I (extremely ably assisted by the lovely lsugaralmond) will be making sandwiches on Saturday. Can I have some filling requests please?

Also could people comment to say if they're coming so I can get a final idea of numbers and also what they're bringing so I can get an idea of how much food we will have.

And drinks! What drinks would people like? Any squash flavour requests?

And finally, can't wait to see you all on Saturday!

Persephone Books [Feb. 8th, 2008|10:25 am]

Not actually about bookswapping but... I thought people would be interested to read this article about Persephone Books that was in the Guardian today.

The article also mentions that the film of Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day will be released in about a month (although this is in the US, I can't find a UK release date). I was wondering if we could organise a group of us to go and see it, perhaps followed up by a visit to Persephone Books?

Thanks for your feedback form.

I can confirm that there will be no planned engineering works that will be carried out on the District line on the weekend of 23/24 February. Please use the link below, which shows this and to view all track closures for the next six months:

Food Glorious Food [Jan. 7th, 2008|10:33 am]

Hello lovely peoples

Well the bookswap is about 6 weeks away and I'm making lists and checking them twice and more importantly should have the flat of fabulousness looking pretty reasonable by then. Unless we manage to start building work early in which case everything will be covered by sawdust and there will be no doors.

So I was thinking about ensuring that people are fed on the day and I'm happy to provide some stuff but would really appreciate if people could bring other bits and also if I could have a volunteer for coming a little earlier and help with food preparation on the day. I shall probably take the day off on the day before to ensure surfaces are sparkling, everything is set up nicely and to bake chocolate chip cookies so I just want a sandwich spreader on the day really.

Date [Nov. 8th, 2007|09:28 am]

alltheleaves posted a poll a week or so ago to see which date for the London Bookswap would suit the most people, and the winning date, (by a nose), was Saturday February 23rd.

So, that's the date. The 2008 London Bookswap will be held on Saturday February 23rd, location to be arranged but probably at alltheleaves's lovely new house of joy.

I'm really sorry to those of you who couldn't make that date. I hate that we couldn't find a day that suited everybody, but as the bookswap gets larger every year this gets more and more difficult, and the poll was really the only fair way of deciding things.

Next year we're going to start planning in, like, August or something. For serious.

Bookswap Date [Nov. 1st, 2007|11:16 am]
Chicklit Bookswap in London

So this is tempting fate a little but I should be moving to Earlsfield on 20th November. If all goes ahead then I will be able to host the bookswap at my place with its enormous kitchen, decent size lounge and study.

However, currently the bookswap is scheduled for 16th February, which is the weekend my sister-in-law wants to have a girls' weekend away in Edinburgh, so I can neither host or attend the bookswap on that day.

So, some new dates. And therefore a poll. Please note that my husband will be happier about our flat hosting said event if he can escape to watch the football for the day in Southampton(hence me adding the football dates in - although he can always go to an away game and may well do that on 2nd February when they're playing Crystal Palace - I know these dates and my marriage is happy).

ETA: Just remembered that Bex' husband will not be at the football on 1st March as he will be on a flight to LA with me instead.

Poll #1080964 Bookswap Date

I can attend the bookswap on these dates:

Saturday 2nd February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 9th February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 16th February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 23rd February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 1st March
0(0.0%)
Another date which I will suggest in comments
0(0.0%)

I canNOT attend the bookswap on these dates:

Saturday 2nd February
1(20.0%)
Saturday 9th February
1(20.0%)
Saturday 16th February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 23rd February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 1st March
0(0.0%)

The best date for me to attend the bookswap will be:

Saturday 2nd February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 9th February (when Bex' husband will be at the football)
2(25.0%)
Saturday 16th February
0(0.0%)
Saturday 23rd February
5(62.5%)
Saturday 1st March (when Bex' husband will be at the football)
1(12.5%)

I know where Earlsfield is

Yes

No
4(28.6%)

Oh Hello Bossy Hat [Nov. 1st, 2007|09:49 am]

Alright, as pisica pointed out a few days ago, we need to agree on a new date for the London Bookswap because alltheleaves can't make the 16th, and since she will more than likely be hosting the thing, this is kind of a problem. pisica is way more polite than I am, however, and not many people responded to her post, so please imagine that I am reaching through your computer screen and rapping my knuckles on your forehead in a most distracting manner. Imagining that? OK, now go check your diary, see if you can manage Saturday February 23rd instead, click on that little button that says 'comments', and let us know if you'll still be able to make it. The little imaginary me isn't going to stop banging on your forehead until you do it, so you might as well get it over with.

I am cross posting this to my own journal and to the london_bookswap community, so apologies if you're seeing this twice. If you still haven't joined london_bookswap, but are interested in updates on the Bookswap, then please do join asap.
